How to best describe Glen Allen?

Since 1990, the population in the 23060 zip code has increased 89%. In case you were wondering, that is 4x the national average…and that about sums up the meteoric growth of Zone 34/Glen Allen…especially in points west of Staples Mill Road/Route 33.

Towards the end of the 1980’s, someone got the idea that putting an office park (Innsbrook) near the intersection of Interstates 295 and 64 on the far edge of Richmond’s West End was a pretty good idea. As it turns out, it was a terrific idea that arguably changed the shape of the Richmond office market and with it, much of the housing market as well.

For Sale In Zone 34

Along the Nuckols Road corridor, neighborhoods such as Wyndham, Twin Hickory and the Estates at Hampshire anchor what turned out to be one of the first suburban RVA markets to stabilize post-crash. Luckily, the western sections of 34 were largely built out and did not contain a large number of unbuilt lots when the shift occurred…but that sells the area short. Excellent schools, some of the most strategic interstate access points and perhaps the best retail corridor in the Metro all underpin home values in the western half of Zone 34.

Development in 34 is now moving east towards the Staples Mill/295 intersection quickly with the new Glen Allen High School completed in 2010. It is generally felt that this section of the county is the next section to be built out and offer the new housing options for buyers in the next 5+ years.
